A Simplified Explanation of Trap

DIMENSIONS

The Stations are 16 yards from the Trap House, typically. The Stations are evenly separated at roughly 6 feet apart, in a straight line, typically.

COURSE OF FIRE

Each of the participants, up to five, picks a station ( a place ) to start. It doesn't matter where the participant starts, because a complete round of trap requires the participant to visit each station ( place ). The first course starts with the participant on Station 1, the first participant, shooting once, then the participant at Station 2 shoots, then Station 3 shoots, then Station 4 shoots, then Station 5 shoots. This sequence is repeated so each participant at each Station has fired 5 times.
After each participant has fired 5 times, everyone shifts to the right one Station ( or place ). The participant at Station 5 moves to Station 1, looping around behind the other participants. The course of fire begins with the first participant, who is now on Station 2, and is repeated as described above.
This sequence is followed for a total of 25 rounds fired for each participant.

TARGET FLIGHT PATHS

I have attempted to draw the trap layout as seen above. It is not to scale. What I want to show, however, is that all of the targets will fly only in a predefined area in front of the trap house. Typically, the participant will see one straight away shot at each Station, all the others will be at varying angles and heights. The maximum angle a participant would see is 45 degrees to right and/or left.

LEADING THE TARGET

I have tried to detail the flight paths and describe how much lead for each shot below. Each shooting station has one target that will be a straightaway shot and the others will be flying away at an angle. The straightaway shot requires no horizontal lead but you'll need to lead it vertically; this target should be shot as it is rising.

Station 1 Targets:

1.0" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead;
2.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
3.19" horizontal lead; 8" vertical lead
4.27" horizontal lead; 10" vertical lead
5.35" horizontal lead; 12" vertical lead

Station 2 Targets:

1.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
2.0" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
3.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
4.19" horizontal lead; 8" vertical lead
5.27" horizontal lead; 10" vertical lead

Station 3 Targets:

1.19" horizontal lead; 8" vertical lead
2.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
3.0" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
4.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
5.19" horizontal lead; 8" vertical lead

Station 4 Targets:

1.27" horizontal lead; 10" vertical lead
2.19" horizontal lead; 8" vertical lead
3.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
4.0" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
5.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead

Station 5 Targets:

1.35" horizontal lead; 12" vertical lead
2.27" horizontal lead; 10" vertical
3.19" horizontal lead; 8" vertical lead
4.10" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
5.0" horizontal lead; 7" vertical lead
